The brief descriptions below are designed to familiarize you with our staff's training, professional credentials and work experience.

John S. Backof, D.D.S.

A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and Temple University School of Dentistry, Dr. Backof brings a wealth of experience to our office. Prior to arriving in New Holland in 1987, Dr. Backof completed a General Practice Residency in Oklahoma and provided exclusive dental care to the faculty, staff, students and their families at the prestigious US Army War College in Carlisle. Dr. Backof remained in the Army Reserves and recently retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Dr. Backof has served as president of the Lancaster County Dental Society, and is a member of the Pennsylvania Dental Association, American Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Backof remains very active in community service with the New Holland Kiwanis Club. He also donates many of his dental services to the less fortunate, including the local GOT TEETH Program, Dental Health Network, and the Give Kids a Smile Program. He and his wife Linda enjoy traveling to visit their two grown children in Atlanta and Oklahoma.

Melissa B. Della Croce D.M.D.

Dr. Melissa B. Della Croce joined our team in January of 2008. She comes to us from northeastern Pennsylvania where she has practiced for three years with her father in her home town of Freeland. Dr. Della Croce received her Bachelor of Science degree from King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in 2002 before continuing on to obtain her D.M.D. degree in 2006 at Temple University School of Dentistry. Since graduation, Dr. Della Croce has been an active member of the Academy of General Dentistry and the American Dental Association. She is currently involved in pursuing her Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Della Croce resides in Lancaster, Pennsylvania with her husband Steve.
